Would you like to take part in an opera for children?

Most opera houses run an education programme and Opéra de Baugé is about to start one. Rather than invite young people to see an opera we are inviting them to take part in one.

Next July we will be putting on two performances of Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo by Horovitz and Flanders at the newly refurbished Centre René d’Anjou in Baugé.

The performances will take place on Friday 20th July at 19.00 and on Saturday 21st July at 15.00. The performances will last about an hour.

Tickets will be available from the Centre René d’Anjou and will cost 10 euros
each.

Children may learn the music throughout the year with their own schools or music teachers until 15th July when a week’s intensive preparation will start in Baugé.
The English Speaking Union has agreed to hold classes in the English words of the opera (which are quite simple and very repetitive) throughout the year in Angers and some provision will be made for English coaching in Baugé as well.

Participation is available to all between 7 and 18 years who can arrange to learn the music and attend coaching in the words and who can guarantee to attend for rehearsals from 15th July and the 2 performances.

Attendance at all the sessions is vital. Since the ‘animals went in two by two’ it follows that, if one tiger is absent the other tiger cannot appear and so on for each pair of animals. Therefore a cast member who fails to appear lets the company down and also lets down the other child who is his/her partner. Please do not sign up if you cannot make all the dates.

If you would like to participate please send a message to

If you would like to be paired up with a particular other person and/or would like to represent a particular animal please say so. If you are a boy whose voice has broken please give your voice type.
