Opéra de Baugé presents each year a season of 3 operas (one early/baroque, one by Mozart and one 19/20th century). Performances take place in a theatre which is specially erected at Les Capucins, Baugé. The theatre is enclosed, so the weather does not interfere with the performances, is comfortable and has a fine acoustic. Opéra de Baugé takes pride in offering fully authentic performances of its operas, with a full-sized orchestra (40 members in 2007) and chorus (37 members in 2007), as well as fully-staged productions with sets and costumes. Performances generally start at 6pm, with a interval of 90 minutes to permit members of the audience to picnic in the park of Les Capucins, or to dine in the restaurant in the manor house (advance booking required). It is possible to order picnic hampers in advance. Opéra de Baugé has achieved and maintains an artistic and musical level of performance which is comparable with that of leading festivals and opera houses across Europe. The brochure for the 2008 season (mainly in French) is now available. Click here to request a copy. (Updated on 11th February 2008) |
